ARTEX's 30th anniversary
New Chums Beach: Caz Novak's painting will be auctioned on the opening night of this year's National Art Exhibition at the Napier
This year marks the 30th anniversary of
the national art exhibition ARTEX,
which runs from June 10 to 26 in the Pan
Pac Foyer of the Napier Municipal
Organised by the Rotary Club of
Greenmeadows, this popular annual
exhibition is one of the biggest on the
Hawke s Bay art calendar. Attracting 75
artists from across New Zealand, it is
said to be the largest of its type in the
ARTEX is more than a sale of artists
paintings; it is an opportunity for art
lovers to see a diverse collection of
paintings by renowned artists. And it s
all for sale, under the one roof.
During the past 30 years, the Rotary
Club of Greenmeadows has donated all
profits to charity, which so far amounts
to about $500,000.
It is an opportunity for art lovers to
buy a work of art they will enjoy for
years, while contributing to projects
which benefit our community.
The ARTEX event will open on Friday,
June 10 with the traditional opening
night gala, hosted by Ngatarawa Wines.
At $30 each, tickets to the gala evening
sell quickly and a large number of
paintings are sold there.
A special auction is being held on the
opening night with a painting by Caz
Novak, which is already stimulating
interest from near and far.
Ten years ago, Caz Novak was invited
to provide one of the auction paintings for
the national art exhibition, and her
painting Wild French Poppy sold at the
top price on the night, project co-
ordinator John Hanlen says.
This year we are celebrating the 30th
anniversary of this great event and we
are delighted to have Caz provide the sole
auction painting for our opening night
Recognised for her impasto paintwork
and vibrant use of colour, Novak s
paintings are held in private collections
around the world.
For this year s auction, Novak has
painted a piece especially for the event
from her popular Pacifica series, Pacifica
-- New Chums Beach.
Coromandel s Wainuiototo [New
Chum s Beach] is a stunning example of
unspoilt coastline. It s a truly special
place, that on visiting, I felt compelled to
photograph and paint, Novak says.
As New Zealanders we have a strong
affinity to both our coastal waters and
the iconic native plants that are part of
that natural environment. The Pacifica
series celebrates this beauty and
acknowledges the significance such
places have in our lives.
Novak s New Chums Beach is on dis-
play at the Westpac Bank in Havelock
North until Tuesday, June 7.
To reserve your tickets for the gala
evening, phone Garth Eyles on 844 5905
or via the new website
